SEMI-FIXED with Ghost v5.9.0 for Posts only (not pages): ⚠️ Ghost.org Comments Fail and Solution
Ghost.org's solution is to embed Disqus... 🤦‍♂️

UPDATE 2022-08-15

Ghost.org now supports native comments on posts only. So the article below only applies if you want comments on pages.

The feature has been added with version 5.9.0 (https://github.com/TryGhost/Ghost/releases/tag/v5.9.0)

BUT, it's an incomplete feature:

  • It has zero comments overview on the admin panel
  • Which means zero comments moderation
  • It has zero kinds of notifications, (no email no nothing) when someone comments on a post
  • Therefore there's no way to know if a reply is expected anywhere, unless you manually browse each and every post!
  • This being said... I'm hoping that all these bare necessities will be added in the near future, that's why I already switch to the native comments instead of the external CommentBox.io
  • Note that email notifications are advertised to work on their official page, so it should be implemented, but there's probably a bug around it.

Original Article:

How is this even possible... missing this feature?

And how is it not possible to find a decent, free, commenting platform out there to compensate for this missing feature?

The only option I see right now is Facebook comments, but I don't think it allows anonymous commenting. So, still searching...

TLDR; Will use: https://commentbox.io/.

+1h update:

Tried FB comments... it's sh*t.

You need to set a fixed width because it's embedded as an IFrame, doesn't allow anonymous comments, jumps around in various scenarios, like when choosing under which account to comment... not an option.

+2h update:
Cusdis - Lightweight, privacy-first, open-source comment system
Cusdis is an open-source, lightweight (~5kb gzipped), privacy-first alternative to Disqus. It’s super easy to use and integrate with your existed website
https://cusdis.com

This one is a valid option. First of all it's 100% free.

Easy to embed, looks good, adapts to the site's layout.

It's super simple, which can be good and bad at the same time. It allows anonymous comments, but it only allows anonymous comments.

Because of this, each and every comments needs manual approval.

It's good enough for what I want, but I'll keep digging for something that also supports 3rd party auth (FB, Google, Twitter, GitHub, etc.)

CommentBox.io - No ads. No Tracking. Just Comments.
Hosted commenting that’s painless to embed, a pleasure to use, and a breeze to moderate.
https://commentbox.io/

Seems promising, has a free tier for personal use, a.k.a. 100 comments/month.

Let's see how easy it is to setup...

Yup, easy. This seems to be the one!

I'll keep it.
